By The Fireside!

So, African comics: that's a thing and we've been pushing it hard for a minute. But Ghana's lost in the convo.

For a Ghanaian collective promoting and documenting all the comic book, video games and animation happenings on the continent, it sucks that we barely have a comic scene in our own backyard.

It's not that no one is making comics in Ghana; it's just all over the place and in different circles and mediums. There isn't one book you can point to and say: "hey, this book gives a good sense of what Ghanaian comics are like."

That sucks, so we set out to fix it.

What you have before you is several years of work by different creators across different genres, styles, and voices. There's a good mix of fantasy, sci-fi, slice-of-life and comedy, and a great representation of past, present and future.

Kofi and I present you with something we are proud of: the very first anthology of comics from Ghana: By the Fireside: Anthology of Ghanaian Comics!

If you know anything about Ghanaian pop-culture, and African folklore, you'll instantly get why we chose the name; if that fabulous cover didn't already give it away.

BTF is our love letter to storytellers in Ghana, our writers and illustrators, African creativity and most importantly, to you.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did curating it.
